University of Miami fundraising reaches record high.
The University of Miami, a private, nonprofit institution, has broken the Florida record for fundraising in a single drive from private donors. In this single effort, UM has reached the $1 billion mark. UM's trustees and administration, including President Donna Shalala, say that the university isn't quite done yet. UM plans to continue its fundraising endeavors in an attempt to reach an additional $250 million by summer '07. UM's strong alumni base should be accredited with the universities past and current successes with their fundraising. The University of Miami also receives large revenue through ticket sales, merchandising, and various income from UM sporting events such as their football team the Miami Hurricanes.
