Thursday, January 26th, a Florida International University police officer was convicted and charged with sexual assault after he allegedly fondled a female student (not from FIU) while on duty at the FIU University Park campus. The female student was apparently getting intimate with her boyfriend while in their car near the FIU baseball field. The officer, Frederick Currie, pulled over and asked both students to exit the vehicle, and then searched both students for drugs. In doing so, Currie looked down the female students skirt (she was no longer wearing underwear at the time), and also instructed the male student to remove his boxers. The male student had been wearing a condom at the time. Currie was accused of sexual assault and will lose his police certification.
